Frozen Themed Cake

The weather was a shock to the system that week.  One minute it was a perfect fall day plus 10 weather then the following day it was winter.  It sounded like a scene from the Frozen movie except summer became winter.

Beautiful fall day I hope it last...

Added sugar art to represent Elsa's castle.   I used homemade lollipop recipe to make Elsa's castle. To make this  homemade lollipop you will need sugar, water, cream of tartar, and flavoring.  Snappy living.com has an awesome homemade lollipop here.  Once the sugar mixture is at 290 degrees F pour it into a cookie sheet.  Let the sugar mixture set for 30 minutes.  Use a butter knife. Break it into long pointy shards. Make slits on top of the cake, and insert the sugar shards.

Elsa and Ana Fondant figurines.

Olaf fondant figurine

Hand painted Ana's dress pattern using light green gel food colouring.  Added matte white
gel food colouring to leafy green wilton gel food colouring.  Always add white to the colour of your choice to make your colour opaque.  Otherwise gel food colour will appear transparent.

I love to hear from you guys.  Please leave a comment, subscribe to my blog, and I can also be found on youtube.  Danceycake.

Olaf Rice Crispy Sculpture

Build a snowman in the summer with rice crispy treats and buttercream.   I can't say I miss the snow because I am perfectly happy with this warm weather.  Just in case, here is one way to make a snowman in the summer.  But before that here are some pics from my niece's Frozen themed birthday party.

Here is how I made Olaf....

You will need:

3 preparations of rice crispy treats (found in any Rice Crispy cereal box)
about 150 g brown fondant
60 g orange fondant
250 g black fondant
250 g white fondant for eyes, teeth, and cheeks
1 preparation of shortening base buttercream
3 large bamboo BBQ sticks
1 foot bendable florist wire
toothpicks
gardening sheers

Make Olaf's head first since this will determine the size and the proportionality of the whole sculpture.  The recipe found in the Rice Crispy cereal box is perfect amount to make Olaf's head.  Use the microwave method to make a chewy and more malleable rice crispy treats.  Let the treats sit for a maximum of 8 minutes…

Pilipit - Filipino Twisted No Yeasts Donut

Pilipit is a Filipino style donut.  It has a crunchy outer shell and a soft inside.  It is similar to bannock or elephant ears.  These are similar to donuts and leavened with baking powder.  Traditionally coated with sugar or glazed

I coated mine with powder sugar kind of like their elephant ears counter part.  But you know what they are perfect on their own without sugar.  The dough is sweet enough to hold on its own.

The ones that I made are for some reason soft on the inside.  I'm certain it's because I rested my dough for more than 30 minutes instead of the usual 15 minutes.  If you guys want more crunch in your pilipit just proof it (resting stage) for 15 minutes or less.

Pilipit

Ingredients:

2 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon Vegetable oil
2 cups all purpose flour ( add a bit more if the mixture sticks to your hand)
3 tablespoon of milk ( add more if final mixture is dry)
